LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We acknowledge that the pre-school years are a critical period for the development of children. The quality of time spent at kindergarten is crucial to future success in school. They help build a foundation for our children’s future, their development in later school years and their contribution to building the society of the future. The years of early development establish the foundations for learning emotionally, socially, spiritually, physically and intellectually.
Young children begin learning in a variety of environments before they enter kindergarten – in their homes, in playgroup programs and in the community. They bring varied levels of knowledge to any learning situation based on their environment. When our program helps them to explore the world around them and guide them through the transition from home to school, they benefit greatly. Over the years, we have made refinements to our curriculum to meet the objective of nurturing a well-rounded development of our children.
We invite you to take a look at our website and find out more about our programme and visit us at our Kindergarten.

OUR HISTORY
Bethesda (Katong) Kindergarten started at Jalan Pipit (now Dunbar Walk) in 1953. We had 20 students then, aged from 4 to 6, who registered for our nursery and pre-primary programmes. As the kindergarten grew significantly both in quality of education and enrolment, new premises were required and in 1955, the foundation stone for a one-storey kindergarten building in La Salle Street was laid. In 1996, Bethesda (Frankel Estate) church took over the administration and running of the kindergarten from Bethesda (Katong) Church.
Today we offer classes from Playgroup to K2, with a total of more than 200 children.
All Glory and Praise to God for His countless blessings to us.

Curriculum
We adopt an integrated curriculum that supports children’s holistic development and artistic and creative potential.
STELLAR Approach to Teaching
Based on our Innovation Project 2009 awarded by MOE-AECES, we are adapting the STELLAR (Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading) Approach to teaching by integrating the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing through the provision of a “Language-Rich Environment.”
Project: “Art All Around.”
We believe that art experiences are of much value to all children. Hence, we provide opportunities to heighten children’s perception and interest in art and art forms. Children are exposed to art through direct experience, verbal and visual stimulation and are provided a variety of developmentally appropriate art materials and writing tools.
The learning areas are integrated into the art activities. We adopt the “Stellar Approach to Teaching” to describe the children’s art and craft work. This nurtures learning dispositions in children eg the valuable disposition of mutual appreciation stands out when children give positive comments on the peer’s artwork.
