About Founder
Joy Tay, our founder, started teaching Abacus to the young by adopting a syllabus from Taiwan. After a while, she noticed the learning difficulties of the local young learners and decided to start her own workbooks. She sees the importance of having a good workbook as part of a component of a good program. Now, she is still continuously finding ways to improve her workbooks to suit the changing learning pattern of young learners.
Joy Tay started Fun with Abacus with the mission to use the abacus as a tool to introduce numbers and mathematics symbols to young children. With her substantial credentials and long-term experience in teaching pre-schoolers, Joy was in the perfect position to implement a tailor-made programme for children in Singapore.
Using her expertise as a certified Abacus Mental Arithmetic Trainer and her knowledge of the local education curriculum, Joy came up with the solution to help a child learn Mathematics during the challenging stages. She believes that a systematic structure in the teaching program not only help the child but also give parents and schools a firm foundation to assist in a child’s learning curve.
Joy also set out to select and engage a group of teachers who not only share her vision but also her mission to introduce the 9-beads Abacus to pre-schoolers and their parents.
