Parenting Tips #1 Calming the Little Monster at Meal Times
It was Saturday afternoon and I didn’t want to cook, so my hubby and I decided to head out. We barely sat down at the restaurant for 3 minutes before my 5-year-old son started to kick up a fuss.
Earlier in the week, I had to taught him to identify 5 faces and emotions that he could use to communicate: happy, sad, frustrated, angry and fearful. So I took Ben by his little hands, looked him in the eye and said gently, 'Ben, how are you feeling?'
He pouted and said, 'Frustrated, Mummy.' 'Why are you frustrated? I'm hungry, and I'm bored.
Bingo. I took out his favourite book from my bag and fed him a little snack to munch on while we waited for the food to be served. Lunch turned out to be quite pleasant.
No More Frustrations,
No More Yelling!
