International Schools in Singapore

In Singapore there’s a wide choice of international schools, most of which offer a multicultural environment, for students from a diverse range of backgrounds and countries. Finding the right international schools for your children is always a challenge that expat parents face.

The rising cost of International School Fees in Singapore

Statistics from Fry Group shows that international school fees in Singapore tops S$590,000 from reception to graduation, making school fees in the Lion City the most expensive of the Southeast Asian countries polled.

In 2015 the average annual tuition fee at a Singapore-based international school was S$27,300, S$30,300 and S$35,100 for pre-preparatory, preparatory and senior school respectively. This compares to S$22,000, S$24,500 and S$28,800 in 2010 meaning that the average rise in the cost of international school tuition fees in the five years from 2010 to 2015 was 23.2%.

2020 marks the start of a new year, a new decade, and a new start for several international schools in Singapore. Times are changing but there is still a demand for school places, particularly in the popular international schools. Nexus International School moves to a new campus, purpose built for its 2000 students in January 2020. Founded in Cambridge, UK to prepare students to enter the University of Cambridge, The Perse School Singapore also opens its door in January 2020 and aims to have affordable fees priced at $25,000 per year. While Dulwich College (Singapore) has been the one and only British public-school export in Singapore since 2014, it will now compete against three new UK independent schools. The first of these is The Perse School Singapore; Brighton College (Singapore) will open in August 2020 and North London Collegiate School (Singapore) will accept students in September 2020.

The average annual tuition fee in 2020 varies but expect to pay between S$30,000 ($21,600  USD) and S$50,000 SGD ($36,000USD) per term. Some examinations fees might be charged separately. Schools will require an application fee to be paid, ranging from S$800 ($575USD) to $5,350 ($3,340 USD). Some schools will waive these fees for returning families and alumni. Beyond tuition fees, you might be expected to pay enrolment fees, as well as for school uniforms, textbooks, and food costs. This can cost between $3,500 and $10,000 ($2,520 and $7,200 USD) per year.
