Established in 1989, Shaw Preschool is one of the first play-based preschool in Singapore. It currently operates 5 preschools in Singapore. The school was founded 26 years ago by Mdm Lucy Shaw who still overseas the running of the schools, with Ms Liane Shaw, Mdm Lucy's daughter, as the Managing Director of the Pre-school group. 2 of its centres are SPARK certified.
Education Philosophy
The preschool strive to make establishment a place where children learn through adventure and exploration. Children will be taught the tools and skills that will enable them to explore and research any topic that interests them. The Shaw curriculum is a combination of multiple educational philosophies, such as Reggio Emilia, Waldorf Steiner and Montessori. Both outdoor and indoor activities form the daily activities, with a focus on the use of projects as a tool for learning. Teachers will listen to the child to understand their interest and plan the lesson accordingly. For example, if the children are more interested in the moon when the topic is about space in general, the teacher will switch the topic to only focus on the moon.

Since there's no review, I decided I needed to write one as they definitely deserve this. It's been about a year since we've left Shaws (my girl spent her time there since playgroup till about 3+ years old) and she still misses her friends there. We had to change as we were moving house, but I have to say, the little league was fantastic- they didn't require additional fees which is such a big bonus for the kids and a relief for the parents. They are a school that has amazing teachers who are genuinely caring. Even the times we've got hiccups (as with every school), at least the support teacher was able to change and genuinely worked with my girl; she left the school having such a good impression of the teacher she originally couldn't get along with. I also love that the principal is very hands on unlike many schools out there. My only gripe about this Boscombe road unit is also actually a strength. The small house is the charm and what makes the homely feel attractive. But it's also an issue where there's not enough space for kids to learn and there's issues when kids get sick. They should really invest in an air sanitiser (not just purifer) given the small spaces. I still miss this school in how it tries to make learning fun for the kids. When you step into the classroom, you will feel it. My girl still has photos of her personalized with all kinds of fun stuff and I love that the teachers have given us so many wonderful memories of her growing up with photos through the app. Highly highly recommend.
