Synopsis

Supergirl. That’s what Molly’s Mum and Grandma used to call her when she was little. For a while, she believed it – thought she had real superpowers. But as she got older, she realised that she was just an ordinary girl. Or was she?

Molly is twelve, and her little brother Joe is six. One day, Grandma didn’t wake up – and now Mum can’t stop crying. So Molly becomes a Supergirl again. She cooks, she washes the dishes, she gets Joe ready for school. Supergirl can do everything. Supergirl doesn’t cry. But being Supergirl doesn’t feel much like being a kid anymore.

Now that Mum is finally starting to feel better, maybe things can go back to normal. They can’t turn back time, but they can face their worries together.

How To Be A Kid is an uplifting and accessible story about grief, resilience, and the need for families to communicate about their feelings – and heal together.

Through facilitated dialogue, role play and fun drama games, revisit moments from the performance and experiment with alternative ways to respond to difficult emotions and challenging situations. Together as family, explore how to support your child and practise listening and other coping strategies. The workshop offers a safe, playful space for families to have meaningful conversations, build emotional vocabulary, and discover ways to support one another through difficult moments.
