10 Things to Look Out for When Hiring a Home Tuition Agency

Whether your child is in pre-school or preparing for competitive exams, there is a sentiment that he or she won’t excel academically unless they take additional classes or tuition. Exams have become increasingly complex, and without tuition, likely, the students won’t do better on their tests. Tuition has become more of a norm than a necessity. Parents are hiring tutors to provide home tuition to their kids, while others send their wards to established tuition agencies.

So how do you choose a tuition center or agency that suits your child’s specific learning requirements? Here are ten things you should look out for when hiring a tuition agency:

1.  Class Size

Class size is important when choosing a tuition agency. Why? Smaller class sizes would allow students to have more of their questions answered, and teachers would be able to cater to each student’s needs better. This means students would get better overall attention from the tutors, which is essential for a conducive learning environment. Large, crowded classrooms aren’t only overwhelming but also frustrating for both teachers and students as well.

2. Experience in Teaching

Experience matters when it comes to teaching. Just because a tuition center has a favorable student-to-teacher ratio doesn’t mean that the teachers have the necessary skills and experience to teach. Check how long the teachers have been in the profession. Experienced tutors are also more capable of conducting complex subjects quickly and efficiently.

3. Home Tuition Agencies Testimonials

Your preferred tuition center may look good on paper, but are they good at delivering what they promised? This is where testimonials come into play. Look at the testimonials from current and past students who have received tuition from the particular tuition center. Find out what the parents/students are saying about the specific tuition center and whether they’re satisfied with the expertise of the tutors, services, facilities, and perks they provide.  It will give you some insight into the teaching quality of that tuition center.

4. Teaching style/methodology

Every child has his/her style of learning. Parents need to know what type of learner their child is and convey it to the tutors. Again, parents and students can understand a tuition center’s teaching methodology or style by reading the testimonials and contacting the tuition providers directly.

5. Location

This is a crucial factor that many parents and students pay less attention to, but this can create some issues down the road. Typically, students attend tuition centers after school or during the weekends. It’s doesn’t make sense for your child to go to a faraway tuition center just because it’s the best one in town. It takes a toll on your child’s physical and mental well-being because he/she will feel tired and frustrated, not to mention the time wasted on traveling.

6. Budget

Private tuition, whether at home or in a tuition center, isn’t cheap. Makes sure that your child will benefit from the tuition that will help them with understanding lessons; otherwise, it will be a waste of your hard-earned money.

7. Tutor’s Ability to Connect

For effective learning, it is crucial to have a good relationship between the tutors and students. A good tutor does more than just teaching. He/She connects with the students, nurtures trust and confidence in them, makes them aware of their potential, and motivates them to work harder to achieve more. These attributes are necessary to help their students to be successful in their professional lives in the future.

8. Type of Notes

In many circumstances, tuition centers provide notes to students on the subjects or lessons they cover. While choosing a tuition center, find out what type of notes are provided to students. Some tuition centers provide their prepared notes, while in some, tutors themselves prepare their notes. The latter tends to be better as these will give the students an extra advantage compared to other students of other tuition centers when everyone gets the same notes.

9. Teaching Style

As we previously mentioned, students learn in three ways: auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic. Choose a tuition center that best suits your child’s learning style and needs. For instance, if your child happens to learn better visually—perhaps you will need to pick a tuition center that emphasizes more on videos, infographics, animations, etc., for delivering lessons. If your kid is an auditory learner, we  recommend you send him/her to a tuition center or appoints tutors who excel in verbalizing and explaining concepts clearly. And lastly, for kinaesthetic learners, your child will learn more effectively through hands-on tasks or projects. A reputed tuition center is more likely to cater to all three learners than their peers.

10. Tuition Centre’s Capability To Address A Child’s Specific Needs

Finally, every child has specific needs and learns differently. If a tuition center, regardless of how reputed or how many experienced tutors it has— fails to address your child’s needs, it is pointless. Know the areas your child needs help in, and then choose the ideal tuition provider. A good tuition center will have teachers experienced in dealing with a child’s specific problems, and preparing a custom teaching plan that will suit your child’s needs.

And, that is how you choose the ideal tuition center for your child.
