Why must we be concerned about the toxic chemicals found in household cleaners?

Many people underestimated the impact on human exposure from toxic chemicals found in household cleaning products. Thousands of chemicals remain unregulated in how they are being used in our everyday products such as household cleaners, toys and cosmetics. The fundamental problem is that many governments are not doing a good job in enforcing regulatory compliance and in particular protecting children against toxic chemicals. Manufacturers are not required to make full disclosure on all the ingredients used in making their products. The main responsibility in limiting the exposure lies in the hands of the consumers.

Infants and children are the most susceptible to such harmful impacts. Their organs are not able to detoxify the harmful chemicals and toxins will remain in their body over a long period of time. That is a reason why we are seeing the increasing rate of childhood cancer globally.

The common harmful chemicals found in household cleaners are phosphate, chemical dye, optical brightener, formaldehyde, phthalates, butoxy-ethanol and triclosan. Other chemicals such as bleach, foaming-agents and fragrances may also have adverse effects on skin and respiratory organs. Prolonged exposure to such chemicals will lead to a serious health effect leading to all sorts of illness.

These chemicals enter our body through skin contact, ingestion and inhalation. They can come from a variety of products – it can be the chemical residuals from dishwashing detergent left on our utensils, residual left of clothing after laundry and chemicals left on the floor from floor cleaner. Imagine if you have a baby playing or crawling on the floor where chemical-based cleaners were used. Many may not realize the damage but it is affecting us all the time. Due to its small particle size, the cumulative effect these harmful chemicals have on our health should not be overlooked.

We may have no control over the environment outside of our house but we do have the power to decide what is allowed into our home. The easiest decision to make is to switch all of our household cleaners to a natural range of products that do not contain harmful chemicals. It may cost more but there is no price tag we can put on the health of our family members. The goal is to start with a simple step and we can change our life one step at a time starting from our own home and the things that we use daily.

To protect your family, you can take the first step by reducing toxic chemicals exposure at home.  Green Kulture products are made for your family from the heart.  That means, all products are developed with a beneficial intent for your child’s safety.
